The article describesthe primary characteristics of the disorder. It refers to one of the primary aspects of anorexia nervosa - a distorted perception of one's body, where the similarities between body images of women with anorexia nervosa and body images of their mothers are pointed out. Later, some clinical entities associated with anorexia nervosa are discussed, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism spectrum disorders. In conclusion, types of therapies most commonly used in the treatment of patients with anorexia nervosa are looked at, specifically the benefits of family therapy.
