Short history of computer games with relevant results of scientific studies in the area of cognitive, educational, clinical and applied psychology will be shown in this literature review. Playing computer games can help improve mental flexibility, spatial attention and working memory. Taking into an account the cognitive benefits, computer games and simulations have been a part of training and education of special job positions, namely surgeons and pilots. In the modern times, computer games have been one of the main mediums of entertainment among youth, so one of the questions that arises is whether there is a justified worry of developing potential addiction. Some of the factors that are being considered in this context are presented from the perspective of clinical psychology. In addition to that, insight has been given into very important factors from the field of educational psychology that are being used in the construction of the games.
