Text reviews various psychological research papers which are problematizing the way women are shown in video games and the different influences of such a representation on both female and male players. The above-mentioned research sought to answer questions such as whether sexualisation of female characters in video games affects views on oneself and gender stereotypes, as well as how gender stereotyping in video games affects adolescent attitudes and behaviors. The researchers were also interested in differences in portraying male and female characters in video games, changes in the way women are depicted in video games through history and ultimately, the impact of violence against women in video games on rape attitudes. Theoretical starting point of the authors is canadian psychologist Albert Bandura's Social Learning Theory.
